Youtiligent CEO Avichai Belitsky: Giving Usage Fingerprints to Electric Consumption

Avichai Belitsky is the co-founder and CEO of Youtiligent, a startup that enables manufacturers and vendors to become data-driven based on actual usage.

Founded in 2017, the company has raised around USD 1.5M in Seed funding from Cornerstone Venture Partners and TAU Ventures, the investment arm of Tel Aviv University. Also, Youtiligent is backed for the second year by the Israeli Innovation Authority for around USD 1.5M, due to recognizing the innovative solution we are bringing to the market. Based in Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel, Youtiligent develops a unique proprietary technology that creates usage fingerprints based on electric consumption patterns or any external signals from any device, providing meaningful business insights.

How was the idea of Youtiligent born?

Bridging between the virtual and the physical world is a topic that is fascinating to us. It started with the mobile phone revolution, and it is progressing to new industrial and transportation sectors. Everybody was talking about IoT for 20 years, but nothing was happening at scale for so many years because of implementation difficulties and cost-effective limitations. That’s why Youtiligent was born. Our solution's beauty is in the simplicity of the implementation; we create an extraordinary bridge in the commercial world, a place with so much lack of real onsite information. Our mission is to enable vendors and service providers in the food and beverage industry to make data-driven business decisions when it comes to maintenance, logistics and sales. The business insights and recommendations are based on real-time onsite visibility.

Can you tell us more about the technology behind Youtiligent?

The Youtiligent solution is divided into two aspects: a plug, and the AI and ML algorithm, developed in order to analyze the data and provide the correct and most efficient insights.

The Youtiligent plug and play device connects any electrical appliance to the cloud. Once the machine is plugged, Youtiligent translates the electrical signal into data, and its data into business insights.. The benefits of Youtiligent are: non-intrusive, cost effective, easy connection, manufacture agnostic, and cellular communication.

Your smart algorithms essentially translate all the consumption data into meaningful business insights such as new sales opportunities. How did you train your algorithms?

This training method is defined as supervised machine learning. This means we do every different action a few times and label the exact beginning and ending second, logging the precise machine action.

By repeating every step a few times, the algorithm learns the activity pattern.

The next time the algorithm will deal with a shape similar to one of the forms it already dealt with, it will tell us what action has been done and add it to the live data.

We are currently shifting from supervised algorithms to semi-supervised, which means that we no longer need to train every machine in advance due to our new ML capabilities, which can infer by itself which kind of appliance is connected to and what the device is doing every moment.

What were the significant-tech challenges that your engineers had to overcome while building Youtiligent?

The most significant challenge was deciding which algorithms will be the best combination for every tech challenge to transform from the vision of setting up together different machine learning algorithms and convert them into valuable business insights.

Every service company will understand that the lack of actual data blocks them from making the expected leap to the next generation of operational efficiency, smart logistics, and new economy methods implementation.

Youtiligent makes vendors smarter by changing the way they connect with customers. Was there a particular client story that you can share where Youtiligent technology made a huge impact?

In the beginning, one of our customers asked us to help them understand which level of redundancy they need to have to prevent downtime. After a few weeks of collecting data from several big appliances, we analyzed the data. We concluded that the actual peek capacity of the machines is much lower than they assumed. Therefore, that could dramatically reduce the number of appliances, and in this way, they saved a lot of money for years ahead.

Can you tell a bit more about your latest white paper "How To Utilize IoT Solutions In The Food & Beverage Industry"? Who’d benefit most from reading it?

In our discussions with business leaders throughout the food and beverage industry, two frequently recurring themes kept coming up:

  • Questions regarding which operational activities and KPIs can be positively impacted by embracing IoT solutions.
  • In organizations with no previous experience in data collection and analysis, uncertainty regarding the starting point for the adoption of these technologies.

Therefore, we wanted to address these important topics in the white paper and discuss the adoption of IoT solutions by considering three key areas where effective implementation can provide informative data for improved business decision making, as well as help with key attributes to consider, when selecting an IoT vendor.

The white paper benefits CEO’s, CTO’s, Logistic and Supply Managers as well as COO’s of food and beverage vendors, service providers, and manufacturers who are looking to generate new sales opportunities, increase efficiency in re-stock and supply efforts, provide excellent service to their customers, and lower costs of maintenance and delivery.

Congrats on your Pre Seed funding from TAU Ventures in June 2020! Does closing the round now suggest that your business is COVID-proof?

Thank you! We believe so! Youtiligent provides remote monitoring on the equipment usage and status by the customers. Therefore Covid19 has actually emphasized how important solutions such as Youtiligent are.

Clearly, your solutions help customers during the COVID-19 pandemic. How do you see Youtiligent in the post-COVID era?

Covid-19 has proved that many food and beverage vendors and service providers must find new ways of working remotely and managing their supply chain with new flexibility. It's now more important than ever to be able to operate flexibly and make smart decisions while there are volatile and unpredictable changes in supply and demand. Operational efficiency and cost reductions are key, and Youtiligent provides exactly this. We believe these changes are going to remain for the long run, as companies realize it is the most efficient way to move forward. With Youtiligent customers can monitor remotely the equipment usage and status, track inventory levels and deliver the right amount of supply right when it’s needed and predict equipment failure to prevent down time and emergent repair trips.

What are your plans going forward in terms of product, team, and sales strategy?

Currently, Youtiligent's product is focused on the food & beverage industry. We are gaining increasing traction in this area and are deepening our relationship with vendors and service providers. Youtiligent is connected with worldwide brands such as GazProm and Hemro, and we participate in international competitions and have been recognized and awarded.

In the future, we hope to expand our product and technology to additional industries such as healthcare and energy. We are currently exploring and in discussions to enter the medical refrigeration industry where healthcare institutes such as hospitals, clinics, research and academic institutes that refrigerate vaccines such as Covid-19 vaccines, will be able monitor temperature and performance of their refrigerators real-time and track compromised vaccines and medications.

What do you think is next for AI + IoT in your industry?

Move finally to the scalability of the solution. Simultaneously, every service company will understand that the lack of actual data blocks them from making the expected leap to the next generation of operational efficiency, smart logistics, and new economy methods implementation.

Thank you!

Thank you! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing team behind the product and Youtiligent!
